Joan L. Jackson with Just in Time (Nov 11)
Hudson author Joan L. Jackson will be at The Learned Owl Book Shop on Saturday, November 11th, from 1 to 3 p.m. with her book, "Just in Time".
Based on Jackson's true experiences with her brother, the novel is a vivid firsthand account of the day-to-day rollercoaster of life with a schizophrenic. It is enlightening, insightful, and humorous, and addresses the high percentage of schizophrenia; there are 2.2 million cases in the US. The author hopes that the book will provide a better understanding of the disease and offer support to those living with the stigma of mental illness.
Ms. Jackson was raised in Ohio. After teaching French for a time, she went on to manage a French-Tahitian export company in Oregon. She is the author of the novel "Voluntary Chaos" and has published several magazine articles and written a collection of short stories. She spends ten weeks annually in her childhood home in Silver Lake, Ohio, caring for her schizophrenic brother, who lives alone, and managing his home. She and her husband live in Los Angeles, California.
Meredith Maran, best selling author and book critic for People magazine, the Los Angeles Times and other top publications, raved, "In this addictively readable, well-written novel, based on her own true story, Joan Jackson humanizes - and even humorizes - the impact of schizophrenia."
