Laura Critchfield with Shadow of Ghosts (Jan 27)

Kent State University graduate Laura Critchfield, writing as L. A. McGinnis, will be at The Learned Owl Book Shop on Saturday, January 27, from 1 to 3 p.m.  She will be signing her paranormal romance novel "Shadow of Ghosts".  "Logan grew up knowing life wasn't really a fairy tale. Her world was dark, unfair, even cruel. While other little girls dreamed of castles in the air, Logan wished for just one place to call home. So when the fairy tale literally fell into her lap, and everything she'd ever dreamed of seemed close enough to touch, it came as no real surprise to watch it all slip away.  But occasionally, love springs from the darkness, friendships are forged from the dust, and family can be found in the most unlikely of places. The fairy tale might not always be made of moonbeams and stars, but sometimes it's enough to know it's yours."

Ms. McGinnis has always been an avid reader. By the time she left elementary school, she'd finished every volume in the C. H. Campbell library, forcing the poor librarian to order more Norse mythology. When she wasn't running through the woods or rescuing animals, she could be found curled up in the backyard with a book, escaping to even greater adventures.  She studied Chaucer and Shakespeare and Olde English at Kent State and dreamed of writing a novel, but when she became a mother she put that dream on the back burner.

One day, when she was trying to encourage her son to finish his 10-page report, he asked her when she last wrote ten pages. And so it began. She started with a YA novel and then an apocalyptic horror manuscript, and then settled into the paranormal genre in which she is happiest.
