Scott Anderson with Psychobiotic Revolution (Nov 18)
Hudson author Scott Anderson will be at The Learned Owl Book Shop on Saturday, November 18th, from 1 to 3 p.m. He will talk about and sign his book "Psychobiotic Revolution". The book, published by National Geographic, tells the story of a remarkable discovery by two Irish scientists.
John Cryan and Ted Dinan discovered that certain probiotics can perform as well as Prozac for the treatment of depression and anxiety. This is a particularly important discovery in light of the fact that more than 350 million people are afflicted globally by the maladies, and they are now the number one cause of disability in the world.
This information-rich guide to improving your mood explains how gut health drives psychological well-being, and how depression and anxiety can be relieved by adjusting your intestinal bacteria.
Anderson is a veteran science journalist who specializes in medical topics and computer programming. He was one of the creators of Lego Island, a computer game, and his work has combined computer programming with medical research. He runs a laboratory called Freedom Health that studies bacterial health in racehorses and has developed prebiotics for animals and humans.
