Writing workshop with Robin Yocum at Stow Library (Feb. 20)
Author Robin Yocum will lead a writing workshop at the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library on the importance of character in a novel. Characters keep a reader turning pages. Scene setting is important and plot is critical, but your characters must have depth and believability to connect with readers. Yocum will deliver a 90-minute seminar on character development. It will explore the genesis of character development and help you create characters that will drive your writing. In short, we'll give your characters, well, more character. Yocum will also be signing copies of his newest book, The Essay.
Robin Yocum is a former award-winning reporter with the Columbus Dispatch. Yocum won 30 local, state and national journalism awards in categories ranging from investigative reporting to feature writing. He spent 10 years in corporate public relations before starting his own company in 2001. He is the author of four books. Favorite Sons, his first novel, was named the 2011 USA Book News Book of the Year for mystery and suspense. His second novel, The Essay, was released Oct. 1. Donald Ray Pollock, author of the acclaimed The Devil All the Time, said, "After reading The Essay, a tough but compassionate story about a poor teenager in southern Ohio who struggles to make good despite his harsh upbringing, I am convinced that Robin Yocum is one of the most talented and graceful writers working in America today. And I mean it when I say that I love this book." Yocum is also the author of the true crime books Insured for Murder and Dead Before Deadline... and other tales from the police beat.
