The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick (Scholastic) - Hey kids! Do you want to learn about this good book? The best way to read about Hugo is sitting next to your mom or dad so you can both look at the pictures. Hugo and his dad live in a house and his dad works at the museum. His dad found a machine called an automaton that writes words or draws pictures. Then the museum has a fire and his dad dies. Hugo found the automaton outside and took it to the Paris train station where he takes care of the clocks. Hugo steals toy parts for his automaton. The owner of the toy shop caught him, so the owner made him fix the toy he broke and work in his shop.
On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give this story a 10 because I think it's one of the best books I ever read. My mom and dad liked it too! It's about 500 pages long.
The pictures were amazing, especially the one where Brian Selznick makes the guy's ear look half cut off! Another good picture was when the automaton made the picture. This book won the 2007 Caldecott Award. - review by Max, second grade
