Book Club in a Bar with Special Guest Robin Yocum (May 25)
Join us at Lager & Vine at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 25th, for The Learned Owl's Book Club in a Bar. Our guest author will be Robin Yocum, author of the 2017 Edgar Award-nominated "A Brilliant Death", the critically acclaimed novels "Favorite Sons", "The Essay", and "Dead Before Deadline". He will be speaking with the group about another of his mysteries, "A Welcome Murder", which is available at the book shop.
Robin was born in Steubenville, Ohio in 1955, the son of a steel worker with little tolerance for indolence. Mr. Yocum's father would roll out of bed before work and pound ground balls to his aspiring second baseman. Robin carried papers for the Wheeling Intelligencer, pumped gas at Stewart's Pennzoil, mopped floors at the Minuteman Restaurant, baled hay, drove a truck, and worked as a night janitor at the Steubenville Country Club, a job that greatly reinforced his desire to graduate from college.
He received a bachelor's degree in journalism from Bowling Green State University in 1978. After two years at the Lancaster Eagle-Gazette and the Martins Ferry Times Leader, Robin spent eleven years as a crime and investigative reporter with the Columbus Dispatch.
