When Ronald Reagan announced his Alzheimer’s diagnosis to the public in 1994, the Reagan family became the face of the disease practically overnight. Davis explains, “For the decade of my father’s illness, I felt as if I was floating in the deep end, tossed by waves, carried by currents, but not drowning.” Drawing on her wealth of experience as a caregiver for her father, Floating in the Deep End is tailored specifically for the overlooked caregiver. Full of personal anecdotes and helpful advice, this essential guide covers every potential stage of the disease from the initial diagnosis through the ultimate passing and beyond.

Patti Davis is an author, journalist, and screenwriter. She is a frequent contributor to The Washington Post and has written several works of both fiction and nonfiction. She is the founder of Beyond Alzheimer’s, a support group program for caregivers of people with dementia and Alzheimer’s, and has previously published a memoir detailing her experience with the disease entitled The Long Goodbye: Memories of My Father.
